miss tinker bell

A while ago I had been asked to do a lovely drawing of tinker bell for a very special occasion and as she is my favorite fairy.......well...I went to my drawing table. She needed to be in a supportive "you go girl!" kind of pose so at first she was going to be clapping, but in the end tink decided to give the thumbs up and a cheeky wink. The first images are two of the sketches along the way and the last one is the final tinker bell. The final is graphite on an off-white sheet of handmade paper.

buisy card progress

I am working on my business card and this is what I have so far. This is going to be the front of the card. I think this is the text and spacing I am going to use. The website and email are not set up just yet but are coming soon.

foot in the door

About two weeks ago a neighbor of mine told me about a show that the Minneapolis Institute of Art has every 10 years where anybody in Minnesota can enter a piece of art to be displayed in the museum. I wasn't going to put anything in cause I thought I didn't have enough time...but as this last weekend to submit came around....well, I decided that even if it was last minute i was going to do something. So,with a conversation from my friend, I proceeded to make a small version of my Marie Antoinette painting I have hanging in my apartment. It took about 12hrs to finish, working into the very last hour and a half befor submissions were due.
My husband and I got to the museum right around four (the deadline was 4:30), to see signs taped on the doors saying they were no longer accepting artwork. I was a little bummed but I thought I had called it way to close to the deadline anyways. Since I was there though, I thought I would look around the shop and as I picked up a pretty sketchbook they made an announcement that they had decided to take more artwork. So I quickly picked up my painting from the coat check and got in line to give that painting away....
And that is how I got my foot in the door

The show is called "foot in the door" and the big fancy opening is February 18th. It runs threw June 13th and is located in the newer part of the museum in a gallery called the "Minnesota Artists Exhibition Gallery." All artwork submitted had to be able to have fit in a 12x12 box. I can't say for sure how many entries there were, but everything that fit in the guidelines was accepted and the estimate from museum staff was over 5,000 pieces of artwork.
